first_img Google admitted that Gemini breached three companies during security testing and remained silent for seven weeks without disclosure

Google acknowledged that its Gemini model breached the sandbox environment during a security test in May, infiltrating three real companies and guessing or finding the passwords of two of them. Google was aware of this incident by late July but only publicly confirmed it after a report by The Wall Street Journal on September 18, remaining silent for seven weeks. The test was a capture-the-flag exercise commissioned by Google and conducted by the Israeli company Irregular in May. Irregular connected an isolated testing environment that should have had no contact with the real internet to the open network, using the name of a real company as a fictitious target. Gemini found three matching results when searching for the company and attacked them one by one, with the plaintext passwords of two companies directly exposed online, while the password of the third was guessed by the model. Google stated that its model ultimately did not use the stolen credentials in practice.Google is the fourth major AI laboratory this year to admit that internal security tests leaked into the real world. Previously, OpenAI's model had accessed Hugging Face servers due to a software vulnerability, Anthropic found that three Claude models had reached real companies after reviewing 141,000 tests, and Meta's Muse Spark model also experienced a similar incident due to Irregular's configuration error. Additionally, U.S. Representatives Ted Lieu and Nathaniel Moran introduced the "AI Emergency Shutdown Act" in July, proposing to authorize federal regulators to suspend reasoning for models that pose a serious threat.

Beijing has just released the first provincial-level token economy special policy in the country, clearly proposing to build a "world-class token factory," and has listed inference engines, model and chip adaptation, and heterogeneous computing power as key directions.

first_img On-chain financial platform Theo launched tokenized silver thSLVR, receiving $40 million in leasing support

According to CoinDesk, the on-chain financial platform Theo announced the launch of a yield-bearing tokenized silver product thSLVR, supported by over $40 million in active leases, expanding its commodity financing business from gold to silver. This token allows holders to maintain exposure to silver prices while passing on the lease income paid by institutional borrowers to the holders.Theo stated that the silver supporting thSLVR will be leased to mature institutional counterparties under standard market terms, with credit exposure guaranteed by the parent company. The product is launched in a beta version, initially targeting institutions and whitelist investors, with plans to expand access later. Silver has experienced significant volatility this year, reaching a historical high of $121.79 per ounce in January, followed by a 41% drop over three days, and falling to a low of $54.74 in July, recently hovering around the mid-$60 range.Theo was founded by former traders from Optiver and IMC and has previously offered yield-bearing tokenized gold and U.S. Treasury products. The silver leasing will also expand the underlying assets of its yield-bearing stablecoin thUSD. According to RWA.xyz data, the market size for tokenized commodities is approximately $4.9 billion, covering 130 products. The London 1-month silver lease rate briefly rose to about 39% in October 2025, while the historical norm is below 1%; the market expects a supply gap in silver for the sixth consecutive year in 2026, with a gap of approximately 46.3 million ounces.

first_img The supply-demand gap for silicon wafers will expand from about 8% by the end of 2026 to 24% by 2028

According to the Industrial and Commercial Times, with the expansion of HBM and advanced logic below 2 nanometers, it is estimated that the global silicon wafer supply-demand gap will widen from about 8% by the end of 2026 to 15% in 2027 and 24% in 2028. GlobalWafers, Siltronic, and TSMC are expected to benefit from this. It is noted that mid-2027 will be a critical turning point; if the pace of supply expansion does not keep up, a new wave of shortages and rush buying may occur from the second half of 2027 to the first half of 2028.SEMI statistics show that the global silicon wafer shipment area reached 3.573 billion square inches in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 9.1% quarter-on-quarter and 7.4% year-on-year. It is estimated that the global monthly production capacity of 12-inch silicon wafers will be about 10.69 million pieces in 2026, an increase of 7% year-on-year, with only about a 3% increase to 11 million pieces in 2027, and an increase of about 6% to 11.7 million to 11.76 million pieces in 2028. The new supply includes about 300,000 pieces from the second phase of GlobalWafers and about 100,000 pieces from Siltronic. It is estimated that the consumption of HBM silicon wafers will increase by 23% and 28% in 2027 and 2028, respectively; new general DRAM production capacity will gradually come online starting in 2027, with an additional monthly capacity of about 350,000 to 450,000 pieces by 2028. In terms of advanced logic, the consumption of logic process silicon wafers is expected to increase by 12% and 11% in 2027 and 2028, respectively. Currently, customer silicon wafer inventory remains at about 100 to 120 days, and it will take time to digest to the normal level of 50 to 70 days.

first_img The EU Cyber Resilience Act comes into effect, requiring cryptocurrency wallet providers to report vulnerabilities within 24 hours

According to Cointelegraph, the European Union's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) officially came into effect on September 11, requiring cryptocurrency hardware and software wallet providers to submit early warning reports within 24 hours upon discovering actively exploited vulnerabilities or serious security flaws, and to submit complete notifications within 72 hours. Manufacturers must also submit final reports within 14 days after taking corrective or mitigating measures, while serious incidents must be reported within one month. The European Commission stated that the new reporting requirements aim to better protect consumers and businesses from cyber threats, applicable to all "products with digital elements" sold in the EU market, and are built upon the EU's broader cybersecurity strategy. According to the penalty provisions of the final draft, companies that fail to comply with Articles 13 and 14 may face administrative fines of up to €15 million (approximately $17.3 million) or 2.5% of their global annual turnover, whichever is higher; providing incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information may also incur fines of up to €5 million. Before the implementation of this measure, several hardware wallet manufacturers recently disclosed incidents of user data breaches. On September 4, Trezor revealed that a data breach involving its logistics provider ShipMonk affected approximately 67,000 U.S. customers, exceeding the initial estimate of 14,000; this week, Trezor and BitBox also warned users to be cautious of phishing emails disguised as urgent security notifications. In June, the Layer-1 blockchain network Zilliqa warned of vulnerabilities in its Ledger application, where attackers could exploit publicly available on-chain data to recover user private keys.
