first_img MSCI's new proposal may exclude Strategy and Metaplanet from the global investable index

According to CoinDesk, the index provider MSCI has launched a new round of consultations, proposing to exclude so-called "non-operating companies" from its Global Investable Market Indexes. This classification will no longer use the proportion of crypto assets as the sole threshold but will adopt a two-step screening process: first, it will check whether operating assets exceed 50% of total assets; those that do not pass will then be assessed based on five financial ratios: operating asset intensity, expense intensity, cash flow, fair value intensity, and capital dependence. If at least four of these do not meet the standards, they will not qualify for inclusion. If the current data is applied to the MSCI ACWI IMI Index, Bitcoin-holding companies Strategy (MSTR), Metaplanet (3350), and uranium holder Yellow Cake will be excluded. Strategy has cumulatively held approximately 840,400 BTC since 2020, while Metaplanet holds about 43,000 BTC. MSCI's description of "non-operating companies" refers to businesses that create value by accumulating and holding non-operating assets, have limited operating cash flow, and rely on external financing for expansion. The consultation for collecting opinions will end on September 30, with results expected to be announced around October 16; even if approved, the related adjustments will not take effect until the index review in November 2026 at the earliest. Previously, a consultation in October 2025 regarding "digital asset treasury" companies, which set a standard of 50% for crypto asset proportion, had caused market fluctuations and industry opposition, ultimately being postponed.

Sharplink expands ETH treasury strategy, investing 200 million USD in ETH staking with Lido

According to GlobeNewswire, Sharplink (Nasdaq: SBET), an Ethereum treasury company, announced that it will stake $200 million worth of ETH through Lido, the largest liquid staking protocol on Ethereum, to enhance the yield capability of the company's ETH assets. Sharplink stated that after this staking, the company will receive wrapped staked ETH (wstETH) representing the staked ETH and its yields, which will be custodied by institutional-grade digital asset custodian Anchorage Digital. This configuration will further expand Sharplink's existing ETH staking and restaking strategies. Lido is currently one of the largest liquid staking protocols on Ethereum, with approximately $16.5 billion staked on the platform. Its wstETH token has been integrated by over 100 protocols, with about $10 billion used as collateral in DeFi. While users hold wstETH, the underlying ETH continues to earn staking rewards and can be used within the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem.Sharplink CEO Joseph Chalom stated that the introduction of Lido will further enhance the production efficiency of the company's ETH assets, leveraging the composability of wstETH while maintaining institutional-grade risk management standards. This collaboration will diversify the company's treasury strategy and connect to one of the most liquid and widely used assets in the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem. Vasiliy Shapovalov, Executive Director of Lido Labs Foundation, stated that Sharplink's increased use of Ethereum's native staking protocol and DeFi ecosystem reflects support for the Ethereum application ecosystem.

hot_img Samsung Electro-Mechanics' customer evaluation for glass substrates encounters obstacles, delaying equipment investment schedule

According to The Elec, Samsung Electro-Mechanics' investment schedule for semiconductor glass substrates has been delayed due to bottlenecks in the reliability assessment of customer prototypes. As a result, the construction schedule for the production line of GlaSSEM, the glass core joint venture between Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Dongyu Fine Chem, has also been postponed, and the timeline for ordering related equipment has become uncertain. The report states that GlaSSEM has failed to communicate the equipment order schedule to its partner manufacturers. Previous orders have been postponed from December last year to March and June this year, and this has happened more than three times. After June, no further schedule guidance has been provided. Industry insiders believe that the main reason is that global communication semiconductor customers have not passed the reliability assessment certification for glass substrate prototypes. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is still producing prototypes at its Sejong plant, and most of the suppliers for key processes required for building the mass production line, such as deposition, etching, laser drilling, and inspection, have already been selected.Since the prototypes need to be remade and resubmitted, the originally planned investment schedule will inevitably be further delayed. Samsung Electro-Mechanics had set a target for mass production in the second half of 2027 when establishing GlaSSEM earlier last month, but during last month's financial report meeting, this timeline was adjusted to 2028, and now the mass production time is expected to be further postponed.
