p2p

P2P (peer-to-peer) is a distributed network architecture in which individual nodes connect and communicate directly with each other without relying on a central server. This architecture is widely used in file sharing, blockchain, and cryptocurrency networks, such as the Bitcoin network, to enhance the security and censorship resistance of the system through decentralization. The decentralized nature of P2P networks provides higher efficiency and resilience in data transmission and storage.

hot_img Bloomberg: TikTok is developing a P2P transfer feature, and the official says it has not been tested yet

According to Bloomberg, TikTok is developing a "peer-to-peer" payment feature that allows users to transfer money to each other via private messages, with evidence coming from the code of the U.S. version of the TikTok App. The interactive design of this feature is quite complete, allowing the recipient to "click to accept" to complete the payment, while the sender can attach a text message. Changes in transaction status will be communicated to the sender in real-time via push notifications, providing an experience similar to PayPal's Venmo.TikTok responded that this feature "is not currently in testing in any market," and the report also noted that there are no signs guaranteeing that TikTok will definitely launch this feature. However, the existence of the code, combined with TikTok hiring for financial services positions in multiple markets including the U.S., indicates that the company is exploring this direction.TikTok has accumulated payment experience in Southeast Asia, with its payment product TikTok Pay operating in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand, primarily used for shopping payments on TikTok Shop. In the first half of 2025, Thailand's TikTok Shop GMV reached $5.419 billion, a year-on-year increase of 162%. TikTok has over 1 billion monthly active users globally, with about 170 million users in the U.S. Following the news, stocks of companies like PayPal saw a significant drop that day. Analysts believe that if this feature is implemented, it will have a direct impact on Venmo's position in the peer-to-peer transfer market in the U.S., where Venmo has about 67 million monthly active users. However, regulatory factors remain the main challenge for TikTok in expanding its payment business in the U.S.

NoOnes: Due to the impact of sanctions, operations will gradually cease

The peer-to-peer cryptocurrency trading platform NoOnes announced yesterday that it will begin to gradually shut down operations after more than three years of operation. The official statement indicated that it had previously sought to resolve and lift the sanctions against NoOnes, but ultimately was unsuccessful.NoOnes stated that the related sanctions led to the loss of key partners, while blockchain monitoring agencies marked transactions related to NoOnes as high risk, making it increasingly difficult for the platform to continue normal operations.According to the official schedule, the business contraction was initiated on August 17, and the P2P market will close on August 21 at 23:59 UTC. Services such as Swap, NoOnes Visa, fiat withdrawals, gift card store, and Bitcoin Lightning Network will also be gradually discontinued. After that, the platform will only support withdrawals, and users will still be able to log in, check their balances, and withdraw remaining assets. The official recommended that users complete asset withdrawals as soon as possible, no later than August 23.Previously, the peer-to-peer cryptocurrency trading platform NoOnes revealed that the platform had encountered a significant security breach, resulting in a loss of approximately $8 million in crypto assets. CEO Ray Youssef confirmed this news after on-chain detective ZachXBT disclosed the hack on his Telegram channel.

Viewpoint: DeFi can achieve large-scale popularity only by returning to the essence of P2P trading

ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, current mainstream DeFi protocols are gradually deviating from the original intention of peer-to-peer (P2P) trading, shifting towards reliance on liquidity pools, external oracles, and automated market maker (AMM) models. This shift, while enhancing capital efficiency, has led to users losing the ability to choose collateral and control risks independently. Moreover, the manipulation of centralized oracles has exacerbated systemic vulnerabilities—recently, the Hyperliquid exchange triggered a trust crisis due to human intervention in oracle pricing, causing its total value locked (TVL) to plummet from $540 million to $150 million.Industry analysts point out that the design of liquidity pools is causing DeFi to gradually converge with traditional financial systems, violating the core principles of "open transparency and permissionless interaction." The early P2P lending model allowed both parties to negotiate collateral types and interest rates through smart contracts, which better aligns with the spirit of decentralization.Despite recent impressive data (Aave's TVL surpassing $40 billion, Uniswap's cumulative trading volume reaching $3 trillion), the market urgently needs to rebuild a true P2P system: users should have the right to choose assets, set trading terms independently, and break free from reliance on centralized oracles. Only by returning to a transparent, flexible, and user-driven essence can DeFi achieve large-scale adoption.
