first_img Glassnode: Bitcoin increased by 28% over two years, while the median market value of altcoins dropped by 74%

According to a report by Decrypt, a report jointly released by the crypto analytics company Glassnode and the exchange Bybit shows that Bitcoin has increased by 28% over the past two years, while the median market cap altcoins have averaged a decline of 74%, and Ethereum has remained basically flat. The report views this divergence as a hallmark of the current market cycle, contrasting sharply with the previous "altcoin season" model where capital rotated from Bitcoin to smaller coins as the market matured. The distribution of leverage also shows a trend of centralization. The report points out that the open interest in Bitcoin futures accounts for about 2% of its market cap, while this ratio for speculative small coins like PEPE is close to 24%, indicating that risk bubbles are accumulating in the most dangerous corners of the market. The data is as of the settlement close on August 23, and since Glassnode covers a limited number of trading platforms, the relevant figures only reflect the venues it tracks.Institutional fund flows are also clearly leaning towards Bitcoin. The cumulative net inflow into spot Bitcoin ETFs is about $55.2 billion, far exceeding the approximately $13.1 billion for Ethereum ETFs, which have recently experienced several days of net outflows. Earlier this week, after the Federal Reserve released a dovish forecast, Bitcoin climbed back above $80,000, driving the total crypto market cap to rise by 4.6% in a single day to about $2.85 trillion, with coins like Solana, NEAR, and Uniswap seeing even larger gains that day.

first_img TSMC 3/2 nanometers and CoWoS remain tight, AWS and MediaTek's capacity allocation has changed

As we enter the late third quarter of 2026, TSMC's 3nm and 2nm advanced process and CoWoS advanced packaging capacity continue to be in high demand. NVIDIA and Apple continue to dominate the resources for advanced processes and packaging; Amazon AWS's Annapurna has recently increased its AI self-developed chip production, securing more 3nm capacity. MediaTek, in addition to mobile chips, is also competing for 2/3nm process and CoWoS-S/L capacity with large orders related to Google TPU.There are reports that TSMC has recently readjusted its capacity allocation. After MediaTek secured a large order from Google TPU, the next-generation TPU v9 will simultaneously use TSMC's CoWoS-L and Intel's EMIB-T, which has slightly adjusted MediaTek's 3nm and 2nm capacity arrangements. Currently, TSMC's main customer for 3nm is NVIDIA, which is expected to surpass Apple to become the largest customer by 2025; the demand for 2nm is primarily from Apple and others. After AWS increased Annapurna's production, its 3nm and CoWoS configuration priority has improved.Starting in early 2026, TSMC will accelerate capacity expansion, with the 2nm monthly capacity of Hsinchu Baoshan Fab 20 and Kaohsiung Fab 22 reaching 50,000 wafers each by the end of October, totaling about 100,000 wafers; by the end of October, the monthly capacity for 3nm in Tainan Science Park is about 185,000 wafers. As of the end of September, the overall capacity utilization rate is about 96.2%, with 100% utilization for processes below 16/12nm down to 2nm. The shortage of CoWoS supply has driven advanced packaging orders to overflow, with the priority for orders going to ASE Group's Siliconware Precision Industries first, followed by Amkor, and Chipbond, among others. Chipbond's related testing and packaging capacity is fully loaded, with order visibility extending to 2028.

first_img South Korean media: China's semiconductor industry is being promoted by a team system involving government, banks, and enterprises

According to South Korea's "JoongAng Ilbo," China's semiconductor industry is organized through collaboration among the central government, local governments, state-owned financial institutions, and enterprises, forming a system for fundraising, factory construction, and infrastructure support. The China National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund has a first phase of 138.7 billion RMB, a second phase of 204 billion RMB, and a third phase of 344 billion RMB, totaling 686.7 billion RMB, with investments in companies such as SMIC, Hua Hong Semiconductor, and Yangtze Memory Technologies.Changxin Memory, established for 10 years, has risen to fourth in global DRAM market share, with a net loss of 21.13 billion RMB over the past three years, while R&D and equipment investments during the same period reached 185.2 billion RMB, with Hefei's state-owned capital providing about 80% of the funding for early projects. South Korea's Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are responsible for investments, employment, technology development, and support for partners. The South Korean government plans to guide 622 trillion KRW in private investment by 2047 and provide 17 trillion KRW in low-interest loans and 1.1 trillion KRW in semiconductor ecosystem funds, but most of the burden will fall on enterprises.Park Kyung-soo, Executive Vice President of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association: The semiconductor industry will fall behind in the next upturn if investment stops; even during downturns, R&D, equipment investment, and orders for materials and components must be maintained, requiring long-term policy, financial, and tax support. China is catching up with a national-level support system, and South Korea also needs a response system involving the government, political circles, financial institutions, and enterprises to act together.

first_img MediaTek's revenue in August reached 64.183 billion yuan, a month-on-month increase of over 30%, setting a new monthly record

MediaTek announced a consolidated revenue of 64.183 billion NTD for August, a month-on-month increase of 32.4% and a year-on-year increase of 44%, setting a new monthly record. The combined performance for July and August reached 112.658 billion NTD, bringing the total consolidated revenue for the first eight months of this year to 413.991 billion NTD, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%. If September's performance exceeds 39.542 billion NTD, it will meet the lower end of the financial forecast for the third quarter.MediaTek expects growth in its smart device platform business this quarter to offset the impact of its mobile business. Based on an exchange rate of 1 USD to 32 NTD, revenue this quarter is expected to be between 152.2 billion and 159.8 billion NTD, remaining flat to growing by 5% compared to the previous quarter, and growing by 7% to 12% compared to the same period last year, with a gross margin estimated at 46% plus or minus 1.5 percentage points. The ramp-up of flagship system-on-chip products can largely offset weakness in other products, with mobile chip revenue expected to remain flat to decline in the single-digit percentage range, while revenue from the smart device platform is expected to grow in the mid to high single-digit percentage range.MediaTek's ASIC design services and other businesses are expected to contribute this year, with estimated dollar revenue expected to reach the high single-digit percentage range, achieving the upper end of the original target range. Data center chips, through close collaboration with major U.S. cloud service providers, have developed the first AI accelerator ASIC, which is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter, with data center revenue expected to exceed 2 billion USD this year. MediaTek has raised its market share target for the addressable market in the data center sector from 10% to 15% to 15% to 20% by 2027.
