first_img Bitget: A small amount of hot wallets were unauthorizedly transferred, involving 351.6 million USD; the vast majority of the platform's assets are safe, and the protection fund can cover the losses

The cryptocurrency trading platform Bitget announced on its official X account that on September 24, 2026, at 18:31 (UTC), its security system detected unauthorized transfers from a small number of hot wallets. The security team has immediately initiated an emergency response procedure and started a comprehensive investigation.Bitget stated that, based on current assessments, approximately $351.6 million in assets are affected. Cold wallets and the vast majority of assets on the platform remain secure and unaffected, and user funds are still protected. The incident falls within the coverage of the user protection fund, which currently holds over $464 million.Bitget mentioned that customer account balances remain accurate, and deposits and transactions continue to operate normally. As a precautionary measure, withdrawals have been temporarily suspended to allow the team to complete a thorough security review. The company has identified and flagged the relevant transfer addresses, formally contacted law enforcement agencies and on-chain security partners, and will restore withdrawals as soon as safety is confirmed, providing subsequent updates through official channels while refraining from speculating on the attack path during the investigation.

Vitalik: Blockchain has evolved from a simple ledger into a cryptography-based secure computing network

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, delivered a keynote speech at the 12th Global Blockchain Summit, stating that the blockchain was initially a primary tool. Although it has characteristics such as openness, neutrality, and security, it is not scalable and is completely transparent, lacking privacy protection mechanisms.Subsequently, privacy transactions and scalable verification brought by zero-knowledge proofs have changed this situation and have been transformed from planning into actual EIPs, included in the Ethereum roadmap. Technologies such as fully homomorphic encryption are also beginning to be applied, and indistinguishable obfuscation may also be applied on-chain in the future. Beyond privacy, the parallel construction and proof of blocks can make extreme scalability possible, and industry thinking has shifted from digital assets to digital assets plus information, from purely on-chain to user-end, transaction memory pools, a complete pipeline on-chain, and from who can send what to who can see what.Currently, blockchain has gradually evolved from a simple ledger to a cryptography-based secure computing network. With the development of AI, providing cryptographic rules to AI for automated formal verification can significantly enhance verification efficiency, allowing the chain to carry more possibilities.

U.S. Republican Senator John Curtis called for an investigation into Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden, involving cryptocurrency business

U.S. Senator John Curtis from Utah, a Republican, wrote to Chuck Grassley, the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and Dick Durbin, the Chief Minority Whip, calling for an investigation into whether Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden exploited their presidential family connections for personal financial gain, and requested subpoenas for both individuals. Curtis pointed out that Donald Trump Jr. had accepted wedding gifts from Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, actively promoted family-backed cryptocurrency ventures, and served as an advisor for a prediction market platform; the related companies are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Donald Trump stated that his son has returned the relevant funds to Umar Kremlev.Curtis also called for an investigation into Hunter Biden's substantial business dealings with foreign entities, as well as whether the two utilized their relationship with the president to create commercial value. He mentioned that Joe Biden pardoned Hunter Biden in December 2024, who had previously denied involving his father in business transactions. A week prior to this investigation call, Senate Republicans failed to garner enough Democratic support to advance the Digital Asset Market Clear Act. Some Democratic senators opposed the bill, citing reasons including Donald Trump's use of cryptocurrency ventures to gain benefits related to the presidency; Donald Trump disclosed that he earned $1.4 billion from digital asset-related businesses in 2025.

first_img OpenAI claims to have solved over 100 long-standing open problems in the majority of mathematical fields

OpenAI announced the establishment of an independent advisory group on mathematics and artificial intelligence in collaboration with mathematicians, hosted by the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. OpenAI stated that its new internal model, which began training on August 28, has solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem and addressed over 100 long-standing open problems in most areas of mathematics, with progress that surprised its internal mathematicians. The group will provide advice on the review and dissemination of emerging results, academic and professional standards in mathematical research, and how OpenAI tools can support mathematical research and learning. Initial members include François Charles, Camillo De Lellis, Timothy Gowers, Martin Hairer, Nikhil Srivastava, Ulrike Tillmann, Ravi Vakil, Edward Witten, and Melanie Matchett Wood. The group operates independently of OpenAI, and members are not compensated by OpenAI; they can proactively provide advice, comment on its impact on mathematics, and make public recommendations. Previously, mathematicians expressed concerns in an open letter titled "A Severe Misalignment of AI in Mathematics" regarding the use of solving open problems as a benchmark for AI. The group is not responsible for providing advice on the pace of OpenAI's internal mathematical progress.
