The CLARITY Act advances in the Senate, potentially reshaping the landscape of cryptocurrency regulation in the United States

According to a16z crypto, on May 14, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee voted in a bipartisan manner to advance the "Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act" (CLARITY), marking a historic step in the legislative framework for the U.S. crypto market. The CLARITY Act aims to establish a clear regulatory framework for blockchain networks and digital assets, with core content including: clarifying the regulatory boundaries between the SEC and CFTC regarding crypto assets, regulating the operations of crypto exchanges, protecting consumer rights, and providing a clear path for compliant operation of blockchain networks in the U.S.a16z pointed out that the U.S. has relied on "regulatory enforcement instead of legislation" over the past decade, which not only distorts the market and stifles innovation but also gives rise to a large number of regulatory arbitrage activities, leading many crypto projects to move overseas. The bill references the 2024 FIT21 Act and the 2025 House version of the CLARITY Act, and further improves upon them. Currently, the two drafts from the Senate Banking Committee and the Agriculture Committee will be merged into a unified bill, which will be submitted for a full Senate vote, and after passing, will also require approval from the House of Representatives and the President's signature to officially take effect.a16z compares this legislative progress to the historical significance of the 1933 Securities Act and cites the precedent of explosive growth in the industry following the passage of the GENIUS stablecoin bill, believing that once CLARITY is implemented, it will usher in a new wave of innovation for the U.S. crypto industry.

Republicans in the United States seek to investigate Sam Altman's personal investments and conflicts of interest with OpenAI

James Comer, the chairman of the U.S. House Oversight Committee and a Republican lawmaker, has written to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, requesting information regarding potential conflicts of interest related to personal investments and OpenAI. The investigation focuses on Altman's extensive personal investment network. Since Altman does not hold equity in OpenAI, his estimated net worth of approximately $3.5 billion primarily comes from his personal investment portfolio, which includes companies like Helion, Stripe, and Reddit.According to a previous report by The Wall Street Journal, Altman had pushed for OpenAI to invest $500 million in the fusion company Helion, while Altman himself has invested at least $375 million in the company. Comer stated that this has raised concerns about whether Altman is using OpenAI to enhance the valuation of his personally held companies. Additionally, attorneys general from states such as Florida, Montana, Nebraska, Iowa, West Virginia, and Louisiana have also written to SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, requesting an investigation into whether Altman has engaged in "self-dealing" and serious conflicts of interest.Meanwhile, Altman is set to testify in court on Tuesday and Wednesday in the case where Musk is suing OpenAI. Musk accuses Altman and OpenAI co-founders of violating the original "non-profit" commitment by shifting OpenAI to a profit-making operation. Although the conflict of interest investigation and Musk's lawsuit are independent events, Altman's personal investment issues have been raised multiple times during the trial. OpenAI board chairman Bret Taylor defended Altman in court, stating that he has been "open and transparent" regarding personal investment matters.

ZachXBT: 18-year-old hacker Dritan from the United States is suspected of involvement in a $19 million cryptocurrency theft and money laundering scheme

On-chain detective ZachXBT exposed American threat actor Dritan Kapllani Jr, claiming he is suspected of participating in a social engineering theft targeting crypto users, totaling approximately $19 million. ZachXBT stated that Dritan has long flaunted luxury cars, high-end watches, private jets, and nightlife on social media. On April 23, 2026, during a "Band 4 Band (B4B)" voice chat on Discord, he publicly displayed an Exodus wallet containing $3.68 million in assets to prove he was wealthier than another hacker. The relevant ETH address is: 0x4487db847db2fc99372a985743a26f46e0b2bba6. ZachXBT tracked and found that this address is linked to a social engineering theft case involving 185 BTC (approximately $13 million) on March 14, 2026. The next day, Dritan's Exodus wallet received about $5.3 million of those funds. By the time of the B4B call six weeks later, about $1.6 million had been spent or laundered. On May 11, the U.S. Justice Department unsealed a criminal indictment against Trenton Johnson, who is accused of participating in the aforementioned 185 BTC theft case and could face up to 40 years in prison. "Coconspirator 1" in the indictment is alleged to be Dritan, who has not yet been formally charged. ZachXBT also pointed out that Dritan is connected to hacker John Daghita (Lick), who was previously arrested for stealing $46 million from the U.S. government, and John had exposed Dritan's old wallet address on Telegram.On-chain analysis shows that this address is related to multiple high-confidence social engineering theft cases in 2025, with a total amount involved exceeding $5.85 million. ZachXBT stated that Dritan has been active in "The Com" hacker circle for a long time and had previously not faced formal charges due to his minor status. He is now over 18 years old, and "the borrowed time may finally be over."
