first_img Grayscale Research Director: Computing power is becoming a new scarce digital asset

On September 24, Zach Pandl, the research director of the cryptocurrency asset management company Grayscale, published an article in the column The Stack stating that in the wave of artificial intelligence, the demand and supply paths for the computing power required to train, run, and operate models are diverging. Grayscale believes that this imbalance favors owners of already powered and operational computing capacity and brings growth-oriented investment opportunities.Zach Pandl stated that digital demand can expand instantly, but physical infrastructure such as electricity, data centers, chips, memory, and cloud services takes years to approve, access, and build. When artificial intelligence agents perform multi-step tasks, they may consume 5 to 50 times more compute tokens than typical chatbot interactions, and increased application layer activity will transmit to the underlying computing infrastructure. The article cites data from the International Energy Agency and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, stating that data centers are expected to account for about half of the growth in electricity demand in the United States by 2030, and new projects may take more than five years to connect to the grid. Even if electricity is secured, permits, specialized labor, electrical equipment, cooling systems, GPUs, high-bandwidth memory, and networks are still needed. Continuous value will flow to power producers, data center operators, and artificial intelligence cloud service providers that can convert electricity into computation.

Robinhood Chain Research Report: In August, on-chain Gas revenue reached 6.6 million USD, and DEX trading volume rose to 1.5 billion USD

According to a report released by Spartan Capital, Robinhood Chain will launch its mainnet on July 1, 2026. By the end of August, the on-chain DEX trading volume had risen to $1.5 billion, with a TVL increasing to $711 million, and on-chain gas revenue in August reached $6.6 million. The report shows that most of the trading volume in August came from Uniswap, with a single-day on-chain fee reaching $2.1 million on August 31. Robinhood is responsible for running the sequencer and receives about 90% of the on-chain fees. After deducting Ethereum settlement costs and the 10% licensing fee paid to Arbitrum DAO, the net income for August was approximately $6 million. Regarding Robinhood Earn, users deposit USDG and borrow through Morpho, with the deposit scale increasing from $9.5 million on July 1 to $456 million on August 31, accounting for 68% of Robinhood Chain's TVL at the end of the month. Users can earn an estimated annualized yield of about 7%, while the yield on the loan side was approximately 3.7% at the end of August, with the difference subsidized by reward funds provided by Morpho and its lending partners.Meanwhile, the Meme ecosystem of Robinhood Chain is growing rapidly. By the end of August, over 340,000 tokens had been issued on-chain, with application layer transaction fees reaching $114 million in August. The report states that the trading volume of Meme and tokenized stock trading pairs is also growing rapidly, with the trading volume of Meme tokens paired with Robinhood Stock Tokens reaching $518 million in August. The report points out that the current trading activity on Robinhood Chain is still mainly driven by crypto-native users, and Robinhood's own 27 million funded accounts have not yet been migrated to the chain on a large scale. The gas subsidies in the Robinhood wallet will continue until September 29, and the Earn yield is also planned to be gradually reduced.

HTX Research Analyst WZ: The pricing of the cryptocurrency market is extending outward, with regulation and macro liquidity becoming key variables

In the seventh live broadcast of the Huobi Expert Lecture, HTX Research asset analyst WZ pointed out that in the past, people were accustomed to explaining Crypto with Crypto, but today, the variables that determine the next phase of Crypto are increasingly occurring outside of Crypto. This marks a new pricing cycle that Crypto is entering. On the policy level, WZ believes that although the Clarity Act, which has systematic characteristics, is hindered in the Senate due to the need to secure bipartisan votes and issues involving the Trump family's interests and stablecoin profit distribution, U.S. crypto regulation has not stalled. For instance, the SEC recently released an "innovation exemption" plan that allows compliant institutions meeting certain conditions to tokenize specific stocks, accelerating the integration of traditional finance and crypto. On the macro level, WZ stated that the situation in the Middle East and the blockage risk in the Strait of Hormuz have raised the "risk premium" of crude oil. Rising oil prices can trigger inflation expectations, which in turn affect U.S. Treasury yields and global liquidity. When energy prices remain high and interest rates stay elevated, the upward potential for risk assets like Bitcoin may be constrained.WZ also pointed out that in this cycle, the direct inflow and outflow of ETF funds have changed the traditional logic of capital overflow, making a "general rise" pattern for altcoins difficult to achieve. However, in the new cycle, assets with a "new narrative" and strong consensus will still experience independent upward trends.

first_img VanEck Research Director: The Bitcoin community has acknowledged the risks of quantum computing

According to Bitcoin Magazine, Matthew Sigel, the head of digital asset research at asset management company VanEck, stated in an interview with CNBC that quantum computing poses a risk to Bitcoin, but the community has recognized the seriousness of the issue. He pointed out that due to the decentralized nature of the crypto network, progress in addressing this issue may be slow, but the community is advancing related work.Sigel said, "This is a risk, but the community has already recognized the scope of the problem, and a large number of talents have gathered and proposed a framework for upgrading the system." He added, "Upgrades will not happen quickly because no CEO can tell developers 'do it now.' The governance process takes more time, and the process is more complex, but there are technical paths to achieve quantum resistance, and you will see more related progress in the coming years."Currently, quantum computers still have error rate issues and cannot crack Bitcoin's encryption algorithms. Some Bitcoin developers have begun testing quantum-resistant signatures on real-time sidechains. Coinbase plans to build a post-quantum signature pipeline using secure enclaves and threshold cryptography, and the Bitcoin Security Alliance, composed of BlackRock, Fidelity Digital Assets, Block, and others, is also supporting proposals like BIP-360 to reduce long-term quantum computing risks.

first_img CoinShares researcher: Germany's cryptocurrency adoption is progressing well, while the UK has fallen behind

According to Cointelegraph, CoinShares crypto researcher Luke Nolan stated on the Chain Reaction program that cryptocurrency adoption in Germany is making "very good progress" through family offices, wealth management institutions, and younger investors, while the UK is "still very behind," mainly due to regulatory lag. Nolan pointed out that the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) only lifted the ban on crypto exchange-traded products less than a year ago, and its digital asset market is still in the "nascent" stage. In terms of relevant data, Germany currently has 89 licensed crypto asset service providers, accounting for 25.5% of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) MiCA registered companies; in June this year, Germany also ranked first in the EU with 57 authorized crypto companies.Meanwhile, Deutsche Bank stated on Wednesday that it is awaiting regulatory approval to launch crypto custody services for institutional clients in Europe, expecting to obtain a license in October; Landesbank Baden-Württemberg is also set to provide crypto custody services in April 2024 through a partnership with Bitpanda. In contrast, the FCA released final guidance on Wednesday clarifying when crypto activities need to be authorized and plans to open license applications on September 30, with the new system set to take effect on October 25, 2027.Additionally, the FCA issued stop notices on Thursday to three London locations suspected of assisting illegal peer-to-peer crypto trading; the UK Parliament approved regulations in February to bring digital assets under FCA regulation and finalized a package of rules in June.

first_img The head of Grayscale Research reiterated that Bitcoin at $58,000 is the bottom, signaling a green light to clients

According to The Block, Grayscale's research director Zach Pandl stated that the approximately $58,000 low reached around June 30 remains his assessment of the bottom of the current bear market phase, and Grayscale is currently advising clients to allocate Bitcoin.Pandl mentioned in an interview with The Block during the Avalanche summit in New York that they have maintained the view that $58,000 is the bottom of this bear market phase for the past few months. This assessment echoes the comments made by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, who stated on September 10 that Bitcoin has bottomed out in the current cycle and expects a sustained upward trend for the next two years.Pandl stated that Grayscale uses a three-part framework to assess whether clients should allocate Bitcoin, including long-term structural trends, market cycle phases, and macro context. He believes that all three conditions are currently met, thus giving clients the "green light" to allocate Bitcoin. As of Thursday morning, Bitcoin was above $76,000, up 0.8% in 24 hours, but still down about 39% from its historical high of approximately $126,000.Pandl also compared Bitcoin with Zcash, noting that Grayscale has offered investment products for Zcash for about nine years. He believes that Zcash occupies an "underutilized and unexplored design space," rather than directly competing with Bitcoin, and pointed out that as artificial intelligence becomes more powerful, privacy issues are receiving more attention, with Zcash providing investors a way to express their views on personal and financial privacy.
