Harmony Protocol confirms the first round of issuance of 4 billion ONE and prepares to roll back

Harmony Protocol released an event update stating that an unauthorized ONE minting incident occurred. Investigations show that the attacker exploited a cross-shard receipt replay vulnerability, allowing processed cross-shard receipts to be executed multiple times, and minted ONE in empty blocks.The team is currently verifying two sets of impact data: early analysis indicates that the first round of minting involved 4 billion ONE, while the latest on-chain reconstruction shows that approximately 3.01 trillion ONE were issued to four attacker wallets through six forged cross-shard transactions. Harmony Protocol confirmed the first round of minting of 4 billion ONE, generated through two empty block accounting transactions that produced 1 billion and 3 billion ONE respectively, of which 2.8 billion ONE were subsequently transferred to other attacker addresses.The team has fixed the cross-shard receipt verification and pre-staking committee quorum verification vulnerabilities and deployed Mainnet v2026.1.1. Bridge services have been suspended, and Harmony Protocol is coordinating with validators, trading platforms, and LayerZero to freeze related funds, preparing to roll back the network to block 92,730,034 before the attack occurred. Currently, Shard 0 has been paused at block 92,753,555, and the official RPC may return a 502 error as a result.

According to an analysis by Reuters of LSEG data and company filings, Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, Amazon, and Alphabet have committed to future payments of approximately $1.09 trillion in uncommenced lease obligations, primarily for AI data centers, which is about four times their confirmed lease liabilities (approximately $285 billion). These commitments have not yet been included on the balance sheet but have been disclosed in the notes to the financial statements. Among them, Microsoft disclosed the largest amount, reaching $329.1 billion; Meta disclosed $278.99 billion and signed an additional $68 billion in new leases in July; Oracle disclosed $260 billion, nearly seven times its confirmed liabilities, with lease terms generally ranging from 15 to 19 years, and the company has warned that it may face risks if customers do not renew or are unable to fulfill their obligations; Alphabet and Amazon disclosed $85.2 billion and $137.21 billion, respectively.The analysis points out that if the demand for AI computing power continues to grow, these facilities will support the next phase of cloud business expansion; if demand falls short of expectations, companies may be forced to pay high costs for large amounts of long-term idle capacity. S&P Global Ratings has included the uncommenced leases of companies like Oracle in its adjusted debt forecasts. This data highlights the potential long-term financial pressure that the expansion of AI infrastructure brings to tech giants.

According to the latest research by TrendForce, the tight supply of DRAM is expected to continue until 2027, and the uncertainty of the HBM4e verification schedule is prompting AI chip manufacturers to consider reducing the HBM configuration of their next-generation products. Starting from Q3 2026, NVIDIA has begun evaluating the HBM solution for Rubin Ultra, expanding from the original 12-Hi HBM4e to alternative options such as 8-Hi HBM4e, 12-Hi HBM4, and 8-Hi HBM4, with the final specifications yet to be determined. Previously, due to the expected supply bottleneck of LPDDR5X lasting until 2027, NVIDIA decided to halve the SOCAMM capacity of the next-generation Vera Rubin Superchip module.TrendForce pointed out that the main reasons for the downgrade of Rubin Ultra from 12-Hi HBM4e include: the overall DRAM shortage in 2027 will limit the allocation of wafer capacity to HBM, and there is still uncertainty regarding the mass production schedule and yield ramp-up of 12-Hi HBM4e. It is expected that the HBM bit shipment volume in 2027 will increase by approximately 50-60% year-on-year, which will still be insufficient to meet the growth in demand. HBM suppliers will maintain pricing power throughout 2027, and HBM prices are expected to rise significantly. The final configuration will depend on the wafer allocation decisions of memory suppliers.
