first_img Patent company Taction won the lawsuit, and Apple was ordered to pay 5.7 billion dollars

A federal jury in San Diego, USA, ruled on Friday that Apple must pay over $5.7 billion in damages for using patented technology from the haptic patent company Taction Technology, according to Caixin. This is the highest patent compensation amount in U.S. history. Taction sued Apple in 2021, claiming that its sales of devices infringing on touch technology improperly utilized related innovations; the case was dismissed in 2023 but was later reinstated by the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.Apple issued a statement strongly opposing the verdict and the amount of damages, stating that the ruling lacks factual basis. Apple stated that its haptic engine is fundamentally different from Taction's technology, and tests conducted during the trial confirmed this, asserting that it did not use Taction's technology and would appeal. Taction's chief attorney, Lance Yang, thanked the jury and mentioned that the company waited five and a half years for the case to go to trial. The core of the lawsuit revolves around two vibration-based haptic sensor technologies designed to allow users to perceive the device's response to input. Taction claims that Apple’s haptic engine in the Apple Watch and iPhone used its inventions without authorization. Apple's haptic engine was launched in 2014 with the Apple Watch and was used in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus the following year, replacing the older vibration motors. Since Apple insists on appealing, the amount of damages will need to be determined first by the presiding judge before entering the appeals process for final confirmation.

first_img CPO equipment supplier orders are visible until the second quarter of next year, Zhidé and Gaoming Iron are starting factory expansions

According to the Economic Daily, the shipment of optical CPO related equipment for joint packaging is increasing. Suppliers such as ZhiDe, GaoMingTie, and DongYouDa have stated that orders from Europe, America, and Asia are flooding in, with order visibility extending to the second quarter of next year, and they are simultaneously starting factory expansions. Customers' demand for high-precision motion platforms and automated optical coupling equipment is increasing, with a noticeable rise in clients from Southeast Asia, including Singapore and Malaysia, in addition to major manufacturers in Europe and America.ZhiDe stated that after receiving thousands of orders for international CPO equipment, they have recently made new gains and are negotiating cooperation on CPO alignment modules with domestic and major manufacturers in Europe and America, with overall orders initially looking at a thousand units. The company is expanding production in the Shugu Garden and Nanke Park in response to demand, expecting to launch new capacity in the fourth quarter and continue to ramp up production next year.GaoMingTie has been certified by the world's top ten optical communication brands and has secured orders for 800G and 1.6T optical module coupling alignment modules, with optical communication product revenue accounting for 79% in the first half of the year. The company has acquired about 60% equity in an optical and medical factory in Taichung, and after establishing a production assembly line, the estimated capacity can be expanded by more than double, with the Dongguan subsidiary expected to ramp up production after mid-next year. DongYouDa is collaborating with the Japanese company Junhe on CPO optical coupling equipment, with order visibility extending to the second quarter of next year, and has already initiated plans to establish factories in Vietnam, India, and Mexico, increasing capacity utilization from 70% by the end of 2025 to 80%.

first_img Major manufacturers increase orders, TSMC's 2-nanometer monthly production capacity is expected to reach 120,000 wafers by the end of the year

According to the Economic Daily, major companies such as Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are racing towards AI and high-performance computing, recently increasing their orders for TSMC's 2-nanometer family capacity by 10% to 20%. As a result, TSMC is accelerating the expansion of its 2-nanometer family, with progress exceeding expectations. TSMC has consistently refrained from commenting on customer information and market rumors. The market originally estimated that TSMC's monthly capacity for the 2-nanometer family would be around 90,000 to 100,000 wafers by the end of this year, with expectations for continued double-digit growth to reach 110,000 to 140,000 wafers by 2027. Industry sources indicate that due to strong customer demand, the monthly capacity is expected to surge to 120,000 wafers by the end of this year, achieving the originally set 2027 target ahead of schedule. Sources say that in response to the demands from Apple and non-Apple customers, the speed and scale of new capacity for the 2-nanometer family are setting new records, far exceeding the ramp-up speed of the 3-nanometer family in its first year.TSMC's Senior Vice President and Co-COO, Wei Chen-Hao, stated at this year's North America Technology Forum that in response to strong demand from AI and other sectors, there will be five 2-nanometer fabs ramping up simultaneously for the first time this year, including two in Hsinchu and three in Kaohsiung; the wafer output in the first year of 2-nanometer will increase by 45% compared to the first year of 3-nanometer in 2023; the compound annual growth rate of 2-nanometer capacity from 2026 to 2028 will reach 70%. TSMC's 3-nanometer capacity in the Southern Taiwan Science Park is expected to reach nearly 180,000 wafers per month in the fourth quarter of this year, and three new 3-nanometer fabs are being established in Taiwan, Arizona in the United States, and Japan. The second fab in the United States is planned to begin mass production in the second half of 2027.

Magic Eden: Current open orders are not affected by this vulnerability; users in the EVM market from February to October 2024 need to revoke related contract authorizations

Magic Eden announced that the vulnerability occurred in the NFT trading protocol Payment Processor V2 maintained by Limit Break. Magic Eden adopted this protocol for EVM network transaction settlements in 2024 but stopped using V2 in October 2024 and will completely shut down the EVM market in the first quarter of 2026. Therefore, NFTs currently listed on Magic Eden are not affected by this vulnerability.NFTs listed through its EVM market between February and October 2024 may be affected, while listings after October 2024 are generally not impacted. The platform is contacting the protocol owner and maintainer Limit Break to explore other risk mitigation measures, including pausing protocol transfers, and will continue to investigate the actual scope of the impact.Magic Eden reminds users who have listed or traded NFTs on its EVM market to revoke relevant contract authorizations on the Ethereum, Polygon, and Base networks. Users can filter the address through revoke.cash and revoke all authorizations marked as "approved for all" for NFTs. Magic Eden emphasizes that revoking authorization cannot recover assets that have already been transferred.Yuga Labs' Vice President of Blockchain Quit stated today that at 9 AM Eastern Time, attackers exploited the Payment Processor V2 vulnerability to steal a large number of NFTs. After contacting the LimitBreak team, the latter quickly paused the similarly affected Payment Processor V3. However, V2 could not be paused, and V3 on ApeChain is also temporarily unable to be paused. Therefore, the team implemented a white-hat operation, successfully transferring and protecting 23,155 NFTs valued at over 5.7 million dollars.

X-Agent Hackathon Emerges: The Prototype of Agent Economy - AI Begins to Independently Accept Orders, Refuse Transactions, and Purchase Models

The ongoing X-Agent AI MCP Hackathon has received nearly 40 projects, with some public works turning work decisions, capital management, and inter-machine trading into runnable products. X-Agent introduces three cases: BountyProof checks whether tasks are open, claimed, have relevant submissions, and the authenticity of rewards before the Agent accepts GitHub bounty tasks, with the core question being "Is this work worth doing?"Abstain empowers the Agent with the "do not trade" capability, returning execution, abandonment, or no trade based on preset rules before order execution. sumplus helps the Agent choose suitable model service solutions based on task context, output scale, model capability, and invocation costs, making the Agent an autonomous buyer of models, computing power, data, and API services. The three projects correspond to the foundational economic behaviors of the Agent: accepting work, utilizing funds, and purchasing services, pointing to work, capital, and trading primitives. X-Agent believes that a true Agent economy requires a complete cycle of "building, deploying, operating, discovering, invoking, paying, earning revenue, and distributing," positioning itself as the application layer of the Agent economy. This hackathon is still in the review stage, and the mentioned projects are only for public case reference, not representing shortlisted or award results.
