first_img Hut 8 won the bid for two data centers in Texas from Poolin for 140 million USD

According to court documents, the Bitcoin mining company Hut 8 has made a bid of $140 million to become the winning bidder for the two data center sites of the bankrupt mining company Poolin located in Texas. The bid includes cash and other considerations, covering Poolin's Pyote and Tarbush sites. The transaction must be approved by the bankruptcy court in New Jersey before it can be completed, with a sale hearing scheduled for September 29.Hut 8's bid is nearly three times the initial bid of $52 million from Thor CALAP, which offered $15 million for the Pyote site and $37 million for the Tarbush site. Additionally, DigiPower X bid $36.5 million for Pyote, while Pecos Industrial Development, designated by the AI infrastructure company Fluidstack, bid $100.5 million for Tarbush. Poolin and its two U.S. affiliates filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July after shutting down mining and hosting operations at the Texas sites. Court documents indicate that its debts amount to approximately $173.1 million, of which about $163.7 million are unsecured promissory notes owed to Poolin Wallet users after withdrawals were frozen in 2022.This acquisition will further expand Hut 8's data center footprint. The former Bitcoin mining company is deeply investing in AI infrastructure, with its second-quarter financial report released in August showing a development pipeline of approximately 8.7 gigawatts, an increase of about 300 megawatts quarter-over-quarter.

U.S. Republican Senator John Curtis called for an investigation into Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden, involving cryptocurrency business

U.S. Senator John Curtis from Utah, a Republican, wrote to Chuck Grassley, the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and Dick Durbin, the Chief Minority Whip, calling for an investigation into whether Donald Trump Jr. and Hunter Biden exploited their presidential family connections for personal financial gain, and requested subpoenas for both individuals. Curtis pointed out that Donald Trump Jr. had accepted wedding gifts from Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, actively promoted family-backed cryptocurrency ventures, and served as an advisor for a prediction market platform; the related companies are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Donald Trump stated that his son has returned the relevant funds to Umar Kremlev.Curtis also called for an investigation into Hunter Biden's substantial business dealings with foreign entities, as well as whether the two utilized their relationship with the president to create commercial value. He mentioned that Joe Biden pardoned Hunter Biden in December 2024, who had previously denied involving his father in business transactions. A week prior to this investigation call, Senate Republicans failed to garner enough Democratic support to advance the Digital Asset Market Clear Act. Some Democratic senators opposed the bill, citing reasons including Donald Trump's use of cryptocurrency ventures to gain benefits related to the presidency; Donald Trump disclosed that he earned $1.4 billion from digital asset-related businesses in 2025.

The U.S. CFTC has added 3 new insider trading investigations into Polymarket: involving Biden's pardons, the Iran war, and Google

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has previously secretly approved at least three insider trading investigations related to Polymarket trading, involving contracts related to Biden's pardons, the Iran war, and Google-related events. The relevant investigation documents were obtained by WIRED through the Freedom of Information Act.Among them, CFTC Chairman Michael Selig approved an investigation into contracts related to Biden's pardons in May, after a trader had profited over $300,000 in the relevant market; in the same month, the CFTC also approved an investigation into Iran war contracts, after a group of suspicious accounts was reported to have profited $2.4 million with a win rate of about 98%. In July, the CFTC further initiated an investigation into Google-related Polymarket contracts, focusing on individuals who may have traded using non-public information regarding Google's 2025 search rankings. The Southern District Attorney's Office in New York is also conducting a parallel investigation. It is currently unclear whether the aforementioned accounts are connected to previously investigated individuals. Polymarket stated that the company would refer the relevant matters to law enforcement and cooperate with the investigation. As the prediction market rapidly expands, U.S. regulators are clearly intensifying their scrutiny of insider trading and market manipulation.

Hunter Biden stated that the LAPTOP will release 4 million tokens to incentivize liquidity and will destroy 10 million tokens

Former U.S. President Biden's son Hunter Biden stated that the LAPTOP Foundation's X account has currently been suspended, and the team is attempting to restore the account. During this period, information will be published through Medium, and the foundation will not withdraw from the LAPTOP project. The accompanying statement mentioned that after establishing an initial liquidity pool of 0.05 USD per token, LAPTOP encountered significant demand and front-running bots, resulting in insufficient initial liquidity from market makers, which caused the token price to fluctuate violently before liquidity was replenished. To improve market liquidity, the team began injecting 4 million LAPTOP tokens into the Aerodrome liquidity pool as incentives starting from 0:00 UTC on September 10, accounting for 0.4% of the total supply. Additionally, two predicted events will settle with "YES," and 10 million LAPTOP tokens will be burned within the first week of launch, accounting for 1% of the total supply. The team stated that there was no presale of LAPTOP, nor were tokens allocated to investors, influencers, or KOLs; 30% of the tokens held by the founders are locked for 6 months and will be unlocked over two years, held in custody by Coinbase Custody, while another 30% allocated for the prediction mechanism is locked for 12 months.80 million LAPTOP tokens can be claimed by users who subscribed to Hunter Biden's Substack before September 6, with a claiming period of 30 days, and any unclaimed portion will be burned. Previously, Hunter Biden expressed that he did not gain any profits from LAPTOP amid the violent fluctuations after the token launch.

Hunter Biden will promote the meme coin LAPTOP, previously stated that he entered the crypto space to make money

Hunter himself had previously stated that he entered the cryptocurrency industry out of interest in the technology and "wanted to make some money."Recently, Hunter Biden has publicly supported the cryptocurrency industry multiple times, stating that "decentralized digital currency and blockchain are the inevitable future," and when asked about his views on cryptocurrency, he directly replied "Hyperliquid." He also expressed a desire to put his artwork on the blockchain and accept Bitcoin payments, mentioning that Andreas Antonopoulos's book "The Internet of Money" had "opened his eyes." Additionally, he stated that he has not yet decided whether to run in the 2028 U.S. presidential election, but said that if he receives support from billionaire John Catsimatidis, he "might have to run."
