Atum, the open payment network, announced its exit from stealth mode and completed a $13.5 million financing round, with investors including Variant, PayPal Ventures, Abstract Ventures, Road Capital, Mirana Ventures, First Commit, Credibly Neutral, and strategic advisor Charlie Songhurst. The company connects payment companies, developers, and enterprises through a single coordination layer, does not issue currency, does not operate a blockchain, does not favor specific tracks, and does not hold customer funds.Atum stated that any integrator, developer, or application can submit payment requests, with settlement providers competing in the market to complete payments on supported chains and stablecoins, offering native authorization, revocable payments, and identity capabilities. The sender specifies the content to be sent, and the receiver obtains the content they request. The network is incentivized based on transaction volume, targeting issuers, acquirers, payment service providers, card organizations, stablecoin orchestrators, wallets, fintech, and enterprises.Atum supports financial institutions and stablecoin issuers, covering non-agent stablecoin payments, as well as agent-based payments conducted through protocols like x402 and MPP. Founder and CEO Pete Cooling previously led Visa's crypto product team and served as Visa's representative at the Linux OpenWallet Foundation. The company is now open to builders, with the website at atum.xyz.

first_img Visa partner Reap plans to launch a Mexican Peso stablecoin, exploring 24/7 on-chain foreign exchange

According to CoinDesk, Daren Guo, founder of Reap, a Hong Kong fintech platform and Visa partner, stated that Reap plans to add a Mexican peso stablecoin to its card, cross-border payment, and fund management products, and is exploring stablecoins for the Hong Kong dollar, euro, Korean won, and Japanese yen to support around-the-clock on-chain foreign exchange settlements and reduce cross-border costs.Reap is a major issuing member of Visa in Hong Kong and Mexico (VPIM), owned by Kraken's parent company Payward, and can issue cards on its own BIN, claiming to support partners in over 100 markets. Guo noted that while public blockchains continue to operate, global foreign exchange still relies on bank operating hours, correspondent banks, and settlements that can take several days. Transfer fees for some currency corridors in emerging and cross-border markets can reach 5% to 7%, while nearly 99% of current stablecoin payments are denominated in US dollars. The company is integrating stablecoin settlements into a broader product system that includes cards, cross-border payments, fund management, and compliance risk control. Reap stated that in the first half of 2026, card and payment volumes grew by 33% year-on-year, with revenue and transaction volume expected to double in 2025. Stephen Karpin, President of Visa Asia Pacific, stated that blockchain settlement should not be viewed as a replacement for traditional payment systems, but rather as a complementary relationship, with opportunities to reduce friction and maintain interoperability with the broader financial system.

first_img Stablecoin payment startup Velocity completed a $10 million Series A extension round financing with a valuation of $200 million, with participation from Visa Ventures and others

According to CoinDesk, stablecoin payment startup Velocity announced that it has completed a total of $48 million in Series A funding, with a valuation of $200 million. This round includes an additional $10 million investment from Visa Ventures, Circle Ventures, Haun Ventures, Ripple, Translink Capital, and Mirana Ventures. Previously, the company completed $38 million in Series A funding in July.Velocity is headquartered in London, and its platform aims to help payment companies and banks use stablecoins for settlement, liquidity, and fund management without replacing existing systems. CEO Eric Queathem, who previously worked at Worldpay, which handled over $2 trillion in payment volume annually, believes that for the past 15 years, capital has been concentrated on improving the consumer front-end experience, while the back-end settlement layer has been neglected.Visa's involvement is particularly noteworthy, as Velocity does not believe that stablecoins will replace bank cards, but rather expects blockchain digital assets to take on more funding and settlement functions beneath the existing payment experience. Queathem anticipates that in the next five years, global enterprises will hold on-chain assets, and the partial on-chain funding of enterprises will create a greater infrastructure demand than merely stablecoin deposits and withdrawals.
