According to CoinPost, Japan's national corporate pension fund plans to start investing in cryptocurrencies in the fiscal year 2026, with an allocation ratio of about 1% of its total operating assets (approximately 21.3 billion yen). The report states that the asset allocation ratio for the fiscal year 2025 is: 80% in yen, 15% in US dollars, and 5% in other currencies. However, in the fiscal year 2026, the yen allocation ratio will decrease to 70%, and a new 10% allocation will be made for currencies from developed countries. The remaining 5% will consist of emerging market currencies, gold, and cryptocurrencies. The main purpose is to diversify currency risk. The fund's executive director, Ai Yuki, stated that due to the potential weakening of the US dollar as a benchmark currency, they decided not to increase their holdings in US dollars and instead use cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin as a hedge against currency depreciation, as Bitcoin has a lower correlation with the US dollar index. After approximately six years of investigation, the fund has determined that the cryptocurrency market has matured as the investor base has expanded. In the future, the fund will continue to explore the possibility of expanding cryptocurrency investments, including funds for arbitrage trading of various cryptocurrencies.

National commercial enterprise pension funds in Japan plan to invest in cryptocurrencies to diversify exchange rate risks

About 1,200 small and medium-sized enterprises have joined the Japan National Business Enterprise Pension Fund (located in Okayama City), which plans to start investing in cryptocurrencies in the fiscal year 2026. There have been some cases of Japanese companies investing in crypto assets, but it is still relatively rare for domestic pension funds to participate directly in crypto investments. The fund plans to allocate about 1% of its total assets to cryptocurrencies and will do so indirectly by investing in passive funds managed by large hedge funds that include various crypto assets. In terms of asset allocation, its structure for the fiscal year 2025 is: 80% yen, 15% US dollars, and 5% other currencies. In the fiscal year 2026, it plans to adjust to: a reduction of yen to 70%, an addition of 10% allocation to developed country currencies, and the remaining 5% allocated to emerging market currencies, gold, and crypto assets. The main purpose of this adjustment is to diversify exchange rate risk. The fund's executive director, Ai Kuchi, stated that the status of the US dollar as a global benchmark currency may be weakening, which is why they decided to reduce their holdings in US dollars. At the same time, he pointed out that the correlation between Bitcoin and the US dollar index is almost zero, making it a tool for hedging against currency depreciation risk and enhancing the portfolio's ability to withstand inflation.

Ontario teachers' pension fund bets on SpaceX, with post-IPO holdings potentially soaring to $11.6 billion

According to Forbes, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in Canada is expected to gain substantial returns from the SpaceX IPO. The fund invested approximately $220 million in SpaceX in 2019 when the company's valuation was around $33 billion to $36 billion. If SpaceX goes public as planned at $135 per share, with an estimated valuation of about $1.75 trillion, the shares held by the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan would rise to approximately $11.6 billion, with potential paper gains exceeding $11 billion. As of the end of 2025, the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan manages assets of about $279.4 billion, covering 346,000 active and retired teachers. The fund's Chief Investment Officer Gillian Brown previously stated that an IPO does not necessarily mean an exit point, and they may continue to hold shares in the future to see if SpaceX can initiate a new growth cycle after acquiring xAI. Notably, the fund had invested about $95 million in FTX in 2022 and wrote down that investment to zero after FTX's bankruptcy. However, benefiting from strong performances from projects like SpaceX, its venture capital portfolio is still expected to achieve a 30% growth by 2025.Currently, some institutions are cautious about SpaceX's valuation. Morningstar believes its fair valuation is less than half of the IPO target. Based on a $1.75 trillion valuation, Elon Musk's wealth, holding about 41% of the shares, is expected to rise further, potentially making him the world's first trillionaire.
