first_img Cross-chain trading platform Relay API exposes pending transactions, which will compensate approximately $312,000

Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of the cross-chain trading platform Relay, Jason Maier, stated that the team discovered an issue with the Relay API over the weekend, which exposed pending transaction information before trade execution. MEV seekers exploited the pending routing status to infer on-chain paths and front-run trades before order execution, resulting in worse execution prices for users trading through Relay. This activity occurred from September 12 to September 26, primarily concentrated from September 23 to 26. Seekers profited approximately $136,000 from this, affecting around 5,600 users, with a median impact of $11.88. Relay will pay a $50,000 bounty to Outputlayer for reporting the issue and will automatically compensate affected users without the need for applications; funds will be directly sent to wallets, with a total compensation amount of approximately $312,000.Jason Maier stated that MEV can arise through public mempool exposure, order detail inference, malicious participation in auctions, or data gaps between service providers, and protecting a single link in the transaction path is not sufficient. He mentioned that the team will continue to enhance the execution quality and privacy of the entire transaction path and called on security researchers to report vulnerabilities when discovered.

first_img Analysis: Some B300 transaction prices exceed 24 USD per hour

User gpugene stated during a discussion on computing power trading: Some B300 transaction prices have exceeded 24 dollars per GPU hour, and the price of computing power with a term shorter than 1 year remains above 7 dollars and is still rising. gpugene expressed the hope to use computing power derivatives to guard against the rise in GPU hour prices while retaining the flexibility to adjust rental durations; if inference clouds sell services at fixed prices and their own GPU bills fluctuate, they have effectively taken on the risk of computing power price changes. The article provides an example where a supplier can offer a plan for 2048 B300s, available for rent for 5 years at 4.15 dollars per GPU hour, corresponding to an amount of 372,264,960 dollars. If the client goes live after 12 months and uses this scale from the 13th to the 15th month, the total would be 4,485,120 GPU hours. gpugene calculated that the current premium for a call option with an exercise price of 4.50 dollars is approximately 4.83 million dollars; if changed to a compound option, the current payment would be about 2.70 million dollars, with an additional payment of about 4.49 million dollars upon exercising in the 12th month.gpugene also compared 4000 hypothetical 5-year rental and demand paths. The average cost of annual renewal is 4.72 dollars per hour, with the worst 5% scenario averaging 10.91 dollars; after adding the call option, these figures change to 4.88 dollars and 7.20 dollars, respectively, with the premium included. gpugene believes that the emerging computing power derivatives market may change how neocloud and related participants expand and protect themselves.

first_img IBM will connect Digital Asset Haven to the Swift shared ledger, supporting tokenized deposit transactions

IBM announced that customers of its digital asset management platform IBM Digital Asset Haven can now connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including the blockchain-based shared ledger from Swift. A new beta version of the ISO 20022 message adapter allows financial institutions to initiate tokenized deposit transactions through this ledger using standard payment messages. IBM stated that financial institutions participating in Swift-related programs have tested tokenized deposits on this ledger using Digital Asset Haven. The ledger supports tokenized deposits issued by banks, enabling participating IBM clients to transfer digital assets around the clock, with final settlement still completed through existing systems.Swift first announced this ledger at Sibos 2025, based on a prototype developed in collaboration with Consensys, with over 40 financial institutions involved in its design, 17 of which are participating in the tokenized deposit pilot. Swift currently connects over 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets worldwide. The aforementioned message adapter allows banks to continue using existing payment message formats and operational processes without adopting blockchain-specific workflows.IBM is also expanding Digital Asset Haven to a localized deployment beta version, which can be installed on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE in the client's own data center for managing digital assets such as stablecoins and tokenized deposits, without relying on public cloud infrastructure. IBM stated that the platform and key management layer are fully retained within the client's own environment, with keys protected by IBM Crypto Express hardware security modules.

first_img StarkWare stated that the cost of quantum-safe Bitcoin transactions has decreased to 67 USD, a reduction of approximately 79%

StarkWare stated in an update on September 23 that the estimated GPU computing cost for preparing a quantum secure Bitcoin (QSB) transaction has dropped to below $67, a decrease of about 79% compared to the approximately $320 computing expenditure for the first similar mainnet transaction in August. According to StarkWare, the first QSB transaction was packaged and confirmed on August 26, with the engineering work completed by Tomer Giladi, and submitted directly through MARA's Slipstream service. The preparation process consumed about 3100 GPU hours, utilized around 100 GPUs, and incurred a computing cost of approximately $320, excluding Bitcoin network transaction fees. This cost reduction resulted from the quantum secure Bitcoin optimization challenge initiated on September 16 by StarkWare, Yukon Research, and Eigen Labs. The challenge invited developers, researchers, and AI agents to optimize transaction construction software, ultimately resulting in 62 adopted improvements across two computational tasks required to prepare a QSB transaction, with benchmark tests showing an estimated computing cost reduction of about 79%. The relevant dashboard currently indicates that the estimated cost has further decreased to $66.The QSB proposal was released by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy in April, introducing hash-based quantum attack protection for transactions without altering Bitcoin's consensus rules. Due to limited cost, complexity, and applicability, he described it at the time as an emergency measure while continuing to advocate for adjustments at the protocol level.

first_img a16z: In August 2026, the perpetual transaction volume of RWA reached 117.3 billion USD

The venture capital firm a16z crypto stated that the trading of perpetual contracts linked to stocks, gold, and other traditional assets has rapidly increased, with more transactions occurring on-chain. In August 2026, the transaction volume reached $117.3 billion, up 44 times from a year earlier, with open interest at $4.8 billion. After a decline in transaction volume in April 2026, it hit a new high again in May, rising to $145.1 billion in July, before falling back to $117.3 billion in August.Open interest increased from $161 million in July 2025 to $4.8 billion in August 2026, nearly a 30-fold increase, remaining close to record highs even as transaction volumes declined. As of November 2025, centralized exchanges accounted for about two-thirds or more of monthly transaction volumes, with December nearly evenly split with on-chain venues; in August 2026, on-chain venues accounted for 86%, approximately $101 billion, while centralized exchanges accounted for about $16 billion, with their transaction volume declining from a peak in March to July. The decentralized perpetual contract platform Hyperliquid launched HIP-3 in October 2025, allowing developers to deploy their own perpetual contract markets using the shared trading infrastructure HyperCore. That month, the on-chain RWA perpetual transaction volume increased to about $4 billion, with on-chain venues accounting for nearly half of the tracked transaction volume in December. A year ago, commodities accounted for 84%, while in August this year, stocks accounted for 48%, commodities for 28%, and indices for 18%. In June, the open interest for stocks was $1.6 billion, surpassing commodities at $1.2 billion, and in August, they were $2.2 billion and $1.6 billion, respectively.
