El Salvador continues to increase its daily holdings of Bitcoin, with a total of 7,798 coins, valued at over 643 million USD

2026-10-08 23:39:49

The Bitcoin office of El Salvador disclosed that in the past 7 days, it has added 7 Bitcoins, bringing the national reserve to 7,798 Bitcoins, valued at over 643 million dollars based on the price at that time. The country is still executing a strategy of adding 1 Bitcoin daily.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently stated that El Salvador has not met the relevant standards for public sector holdings of crypto assets, but exemptions are approved based on corrective measures and new commitments. The IMF had previously requested that it gradually stop directly purchasing Bitcoin in order to secure a 1.4 billion dollar credit arrangement. IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz stated that, apart from recorded donations, El Salvador is not expected to continue increasing its Bitcoin holdings. The recent additions to El Salvador's holdings are reportedly funded by private donors whose identities remain undisclosed.
