Hyperliquid CEO Jeff: The combination of AI and finance has been overcomplicated; what Agent lacks is a financial system where data and value are on the same level

ChainCatcher live report, at the Token2049 conference in Singapore, Hyperliquid Labs CEO Jeff Yan stated that the market may have "overcomplicated" the combination of AI and finance: Agents are already superhuman in many capabilities, and this gap will continue to widen; from a technical perspective, there are no barriers for Agents to interface with any system's API. He believes that what may truly hinder the widespread adoption of Agents is that existing systems do not place data and value at the same level of abstraction, meaning that while requests and responses can be transmitted freely over the internet, when it comes to the flow of funds, it still relies on specific institutions to "give a nod or shake their head."

Jeff Yan assesses that such compliance steps will still exist in the future, but they will occur above the internet layer and protocol layer, rather than within the protocol layer itself; once the protocol layer can natively carry value like it does with data, and compliance is positioned at a higher level, Agents can truly showcase their capabilities in on-chain financial systems.

He also predicts that a common future scenario will be that users set high-level goals, and the purpose of financial systems is to help people accumulate wealth and live better lives, with superintelligent agents transforming those goals into specific actions, where Agents play a complementary role, which requires the underlying systems themselves to be open and accessible.
