In the COLDCARD weak random number security incident, using a Passphrase mnemonic can avoid the attack

2026-07-31 14:23:52

Slow Mist's Yuxian stated on platform X that in the COLDCARD hardware wallet weak random number security incident, if the mnemonic phrase used a Passphrase, it could avoid this attack.

The Passphrase is not the wallet unlock PIN code, but a password specifically set for the mnemonic phrase, and mainstream hardware wallets all support this mechanism.
