According to The Block, the Myanmar military government has released a draft of the "Anti-Online Fraud Act," which proposes the death penalty for those who force others to engage in online fraud and life imprisonment for those who operate fraud centers or commit cryptocurrency fraud.

The draft also proposes the establishment of a special committee responsible for international cooperation to combat fraud activities. The Myanmar parliament is expected to review the bill in early June.

Previously, the U.S. Department of the Treasury had imposed sanctions on multiple entities suspected of cryptocurrency investment fraud in Myanmar and Cambodia in September 2025. FBI data shows that losses related to cryptocurrency fraud reached as high as $11.4 billion in 2025, accounting for more than half of all internet crime losses.
