Vitalik's approximately $4 token exchange transaction was ambushed by an MEV bot

2026-05-08 08:31:44

According to CoinDesk, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin was subjected to a sandwich attack by the well-known MEV bot jaredfromsubway.eth while conducting a small token exchange.

On-chain data shows that Buterin exchanged 26,544 XDB tokens worth approximately $3.86 for 0.00197 ETH (about $4.56) in block 24993038. The bot then called approximately $1.14 million WETH to manipulate prices between SushiSwap and Uniswap V2 to complete the sandwich attack, resulting in an actual loss for the bot after deducting a gas fee of $5.14.
